My name is Luke James and I am a currently juggling being a full time dad, a student of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, not forgetting being the best partner I can be to the mother of my child.

I had always been a timid person and looked to martial arts to build confidence in myself. Practicing Yang Mian Kung Fu for 7 years prior, I started BJJ in 2011, after my master moved away and I looked to further my diversity in martial arts studies.
After training under Jose Gomes (Carlson Gracie, Queenstown), my life started to rotate around the BJJ mentality of being healthy and respectful in all aspects of body, mind and surroundings. This lead to growing a strong body and sound mind, subsequently leading me to changing profession and pursuing further academic studies.
4 years on and things have changed since I started; now with a partner and child in tow, yet the BJJ mentality has never changed. Although I'm not able to train as much as I once did, the life lessons of resilience under pressure that BJJ also taught me has helped me continue to juggle the many difficulties that life throws at you. Now a brown belt under Vanderson Pires and a part time instructor, I see my self as a prime example of how BJJ can influence anyone that is looking for way to help in every and any aspect of life.
