Hay Fever & Acupuncture

🌿 Hay Fever & Acupuncture 🌿
Spring and summer can be a beautiful time of year—but for some people, it also means sneezing, itchy eyes and a constantly blocked or runny nose.
Hay fever (allergic rhinitis) occurs when the immune system reacts to allergens such as pollen, triggering inflammation in the nasal passages and airways.
So where can acupuncture fit in?
Acupuncture may help manage some of the symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, including:
🌱 Sneezing
🌱 Runny or blocked nose
🌱 Itchy nose and eyes
🌱 Sinus pressure
🌱 Headaches
🌱 Poor sleep caused by congestion
From a TCM perspective, allergic rhinitis can involve an imbalance affecting the Lung, Spleen and Wei Qi (defensive Qi). Treatment is tailored to the individual's presentation rather than simply treating the symptoms.
One of the things I particularly like about treating hay fever with acupuncture is that you don't necessarily have to wait until symptoms are at their worst.
If you know that hay fever tends to hit you every spring, treatment can be started before or early in the season, with the aim of helping manage symptoms as they appear.
Acupuncture may also be useful alongside other approaches such as avoiding known allergens, nasal saline rinses and appropriate allergy medications.
If hay fever is making you dread the warmer months, acupuncture may be worth considering as part of your symptom-management plan.
